U-haul, Penske, and Budget way over price their crappy rental trucks, and everything else. It would have been a couple of thousand to rent a truck such as this one to move down to Tucson. So, we got smart and started looking for one to buy. Luckily Dave has all the hook-ups in Wisconsin. His buddy Devon Wolfe set us up with this beauty, known by the name "Bready". Thanks to Devon and Tony. She was cheap, and got the job done. It was formerly a Milwaukee County Sheriff's Swat Vehicle. It was bought at auction, and now we are the proud owners of this sister to the UPS truck. It's geared to jump off the line, and only really comfortably do 50mph. It took us a while, with 2 mishaps along the way. First was in Springfield, IL. Some great guys got us in right away for a tune-up at Valvoline. We were burning oil like crazy, so they suggested to drive about 15-20mph slower. The next problem was in OK, some where. Oklahoma is not okay, rather extremely boring and it took too damn long to get across it. We don't want to make that drive again. We got up nice and early to get a head start on the day. Fired Bready up, went to fill'er'up, and after topping off the tank she wouldn't start. We messed around with it for a while, and figured out we just needed a new battery. It was Sunday morning, and nothing was open in this po-dunk town. Now, this is the only time I have ever been happy to see a Wal-Mart. They were open early, and they had the battery we needed. After a lovely quality breakfast at McDonald's, we hit the road, and headed for Albuquerque.
We left on a Thursday morning from Oconomowoc, WI and didn't get in to Albuquerque, NM (my folks home) till Friday night. It was good to see my folks and spend some time with them. They also got to meet Dave for the first time since December. We introduced Dave to all the wonderful Mexican joints to eat at. And now that were are in this part of the country it would be more abundant. This is a good thing. You know you are in the Southwest when they ask you, "Red or Green."
