I decide to run my first running race of the year this past weekend. For me it's more like jogging at a brisk pace. Yes, a brisk pace. Actually I did quite well, and was sorta proud of myself. I've probably ran about 15 times this off-season, and done no more than 4 miles at a time. I signed myself up for the 10k run which is about 6.3 miles. Now, I've done 2 half marathons (last year). Those things really hurt. You want to not be able to walk for 2 days, try one of these. I remember last year about this time was my first half marathon. My mom flew in to NC, from Albuquerque to visit. I took her with me to the race. It poured rain. I was chafed like a seared monkey in a skillet. I never knew that runners had some of the same problems as us cyclists, but in different places. Ouch! The short of the story is that mom wanted to go shopping after my race, and surprised me with a 5 hour marathon shopping spree post race. Another ouch. My time improved this year by 12 seconds. My time 48:57. Don't laugh, that's the differnce between 1st & 12th in a time trial. Yeah, boyee that's right. I was also 22nd out of 229 in my age group. I was upset that Dave didn't want to carry the camera to get an "action" shot of me, so I have no photo to show for my accomplishment. The best part is that I sprinted a guy to the line that I'd been pacing off of for the last mile. You have to love people like me, but that's the only time I've ever done that in any sort of race. I swear. Got a 10 miler in 2 week. Uhh oh!
